rules.

ooc.

  1. Text / One-liners / Prose / Multipara are all OK!! Please don't feel the need to match length if I go crazy with it.

  2. IC =/= OOC. No bleed, please. Callum isn't as cold in this timeframe, but if he does say anything rude, just know it isn't personal.

  3. If your OC has any kind of prejudices, please ask if it's okay before an IC interaction. Conflict is fun, and I am well aware of how there can be prejudices in the XIV universe towards foreigners or those who are mixed-race (ESPECIALLY in Coerthas or Ishgard). I don't mind it as long as we talk it out beforehand and you don't spring fantasy racism or fantasy ableism on me unprompted.

  4. Racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, religious discrimination, etc. OOC will not be tolerated. I am a biracial, gay trans man who is also disabled, so I like to curate my space to be safe for both myself and others. ♡

  5. Minors, do not interact. I am in my mid-20s and I'm not comfortable interacting with anyone under 18. I'm most comfortable interacting with people 20+.

  6. No Metagaming or Godmodding. Consent in RP regarding physical contact / fighting is pretty important to me, so I will generally ask permission OOC before Callum does anything -- preferably, I would like it if you did the same for me!

  7. ERP is reserved for my partner and friends. I am okay with NSFW headcanons and jokes, but please try to befriend me before you try to get into my character's pants.

  8. Rules are subject to change whenever I feel things need to be updated. Thanks! :)

Hi there! My name is Ilan. I've been rping since the late 2000s, and I've been playing FFXIV since May of 2020. :) I love RPing, but I can be very shy when initially meeting someone or reaching out. If you ever want to RP or plot something with me, please feel free to drop me a DM.When I'm not RPing, I'm usually making art! I am a multi-media artist who loves animating and illustrating. I also enjoy GPosing and video editing. When I'm actually playing XIV, I'm usually running Frontlines, joining hunt trains, or achievement hunting! I also RP in-game. :)I am taken IRL by my beloved partner, Benny! We can often be found rping or playing together in-game.Please keep in mind that my OCs stick very close to in-game lore and worldbuilding! Though, I still love interacting with plots and OCs that stray from the original lore. :) My OCs may not be familiar with modern technology, however.

Info.

As a note, this information pertains specifically to this version of Callum, who exists essentially in the Patch 2.55 - 3.0 (pre-Vault) period of MSQ. If you're looking for his information past HW, you can find his main carrd here. It's okay if your muse is from past 3.0 -- he may just not know about certain things!
Additionally, Callum is not a Warrior of Light OC. He does not have The Echo, nor does he experience / have knowledge of many events or places from MSQ (Azys Lla, Elpis, etc). You can think of him as an NPC that exists in his own little bubble in the overworld. His worldview is limited to his experiences and what he hears from others.

personality.

RESERVED | DUTIFUL | AMIABLE | THOROUGH | STUBBORN | IMPULSIVE | TIMID

Despite his haughty and smug demeanor during his childhood, his circumstances in adulthood and years in the Maelstrom quickly cleaned him up. Without all that confidence, Callum has become more reserved with age, but he is friendly and amicable when spoken to. He often opts to bury his nose in work or a book rather than socialize, still taking the time to slowly grow closer to his squadron with each day. His dedication to his work is unmatched, thorough with details and being sure that no mistake is overlooked. This often results in him missing out on sleep, which he prefers to miss out on, regardless. He is clever, and it's easy for him to catch on to new things. He's a fan of taking things apart, putting them together, and coming up with creative solutions. With his combat skills lacking compared to others at his station, he makes up for it in tactical prowess. His knack for strategy is second to none. While Callum tries his best to think through things logically, he ultimately is a man that is driven by his heart. He can become emotional and influenced by sentimental factors -- including his family and friends. It can be difficult to sway his opinion, as he is extremely stubborn and set in his ways. His emotions can lead him to be impulsive, and he'll throw himself into danger without thinking if someone or something he cares about is at risk. Despite this, however, Callum is organized to a fault. He has a schedule in his mind planned down to the second, and he uses his space wisely. Everything is tidy and has a space. No matter how hard he tries to hide it, he is an anxious wreck surrounding his responsibilities and his current assignment. Not wanting to step on toes, he can come off as timid and overly formal -- relying on titles and keeping conversations on an as-needed basis to avoid complicating things. He is well aware of how Ishgardians view Lominsans, as well as people who are mixed-race like himself, and will often code-switch with how he speaks and acts in order to be more palatable to strangers. Professionalism is always on his mind, even if it means foregoing the simple joys of life at times. He tries not to think about the future, nor will he speak about it. All of those thoughts remain locked away in his journal -- at least for now.

about callum's illness.

Since his eighteenth summer, balancing his health has been an uphill battle. Due to recessive genes and a genetic defect, Callum deals with a variety of health issues. He was born with albinism, has affected him in the following ways:
- Worsening eyesight over time.
- Inability to handle direct sunlight, heat over long periods of time.
- Nystagmus (foggy, shaky vision; identified by small, involuntary movements of the eyes).
Additionally, he was born with mild, Osteogenesis Imperfecta. These symptoms, however, did not manifest until later in life for him. Because of this, he has the following:
- A small stature.
- Fragile bones that fracture and break easily.
- A bluish tint in the corners of his eyes.
- Inconsistent, weak muscle strength.
- Slightly underdeveloped lungs, resulting in a shortness of breath and other breathing problems.
- Hearing loss over time.
Other comorbidities and symptoms have also developed over time, including the following:
- Aether weakness.
-Tachycardia (a heartbeat of 100bpm or more)
- Hypotension (low blood pressure), often resulting in fainting spells and lightheadedness.
- Heavy bleeding (frequent nosebleeds or accumulation of blood in the lungs).

His flareups are heavily influenced by his emotions and strenuous physical activity. — if he gets too worked up too quickly, he will often remove himself from the situation to rein himself in. Though, chronic stress, insomnia, the heat, and using magic tends to exacerbate his symptoms as well.
By no means does this make him helpless, however. Callum has found his own ways to thrive. Using his skills as a smith, he makes reinforced armor to soften the recoil of his blows and keep his hands in-tact. Additionally, he has learned sign language for situations that make hearing difficult.
Callum has a difficult relationship with his health. He has accepted it, yet — at least, for the time being — rejects treatment. This is partially due to the complications of different illnesses mingling together, and partially out of stubbornness. Thus, he's made peace with his shortened lifespan and the downspiral that comes with it.He is open about it with his squadron, but it takes a bit of trust for him to divulge this information to strangers out of fear of being seen as helpless. His deep-seated frustrations about his lack of time and feelings of unfulfillment — ones from his younger years that he has tried his absolute hardest to put past him — are something he keeps more heavily guarded. These are feelings that he rarely opens up about, and require a higher level of closeness. Good luck.

history.

This is an abridged version of Callum's lore from 1.0 to 2.55 for his Heavensward alt. A full version of Callum's lore can be found here , on his main carrd.

LORE : early years.

The first son of Liam Glainne and Liu Xiuhua, second generation Ishgardian immigrants from Limsa Lominsa and Yanxia respectively. With the controversy and difficulties surrounding a union between a Midlander and a Keeper of the Moon in Ishgardian society, the family left for Limsa Lominsa when Callum was only a year old to work in Limsa Lominsa’s Blacksmith’s Guild. Having spent nearly the entirety of his life in the city, Callum considers himself to be a native Lominsan, rather than acknowledging his Ishgardian homeland.Since he was born, Callum has always stood out as slightly different. As a result of recessive genes, he was born with albinism, his white hair and pale complexion a stark difference from those of his parents. Additionally, he was always a bit smaller than the others -- perhaps, even slightly weaker. His ears were small and underdeveloped, and his tail grew to only a stub’s length. However, this did nothing to change his parents’ unconditional love and their desire to set him up for success. His parents made sure to train him in both combat and smithing, placing a longsword and a cross peen hammer in his hands as soon as he could hold them properly. The boy, seemingly an eternal spitfire that could never be extinguished, handled everything with stride. He could stand his own well enough against an opponent if need be, and took great interest in tinkering and smithing weapons.

Smug and prideful, Callum grew up with an unbeatable confidence. He would thrive in whatever endeavors he sought out. Eventually, the boy began dreaming of setting out from Limsa Lominsa on his own to travel the world as an adventurer.Sometime during his 18th year, Callum’s strength began to falter. It became unreliable; sometimes it became too difficult to stand on his own two feet. Eventually, picking up and holding his beloved longsword with the right posture became a feat of its own. His lungs started to give out too soon, and his heart began to beat much faster than it should. A simple scuffle could lead to blood and fractured bones.Ultimately, it was decided that the boy could no longer fight or pursue his dreams of joining the adventurers that passed through Limsa Lominsa on the daily. However — Callum, as stubborn as he is — refused to accept that. Fueled by spite and an intense desire to prove everyone wrong, he abruptly and wordlessly ran off to find something that could fulfill his desire to find his purpose in life. For around a year, he wandered around La Noscea and studied healing magic alongside the Scholars of Limsa Lominsa. Shunning most, he relied mostly on his faerie for companionship. As time passed, however, he realized that using magic did more harm to his body than it was worth after nearly killing himself from overexertion. Feeling defeated, he gave up and returned to Limsa Lominsa to figure out what to do next.

LORE : prior to the calamity .

Desperate to find a purpose for himself, he once again tried to pivot in a different direction. He learned to fight with his fists rather than relying on a weapon. While it wasn’t the most wise decision for his fragile stature, he took a liking to the thrill of up-close combat. Still seeking adventure and a place to belong, he decided to go through the recruitment process of joining the Grand Companies. With Limsa Lominsa being his home and his admiration of the Admiral’s way of thinking as factors, he decided to enlist in the Maelstrom after earning Lieutenant Guincum’s approval through completing various tasks.Callum was initially recruited with his childhood friend, Edan. For a time, the two of them were involved romantically — though Callum struggled to reciprocate Edan's strong feelings. Not long afterwards, however, Edan grew tired of the Maelstrom life and yearned to take to the seas as a pirate. Callum, thinking that it was a foolish idea, had no problems making his opinion known.Early in their careers, they were sent on a mission to Pharos Sirius to investigate the siren that had been luring their men towards the lighthouse. This mission, where he was surrounded by his zombified peers, left Callum disturbed and adamant on his hatred of both the pirate life and seafaring.

Edan, however, was still unswayed. Edan decided to leave the Maelstrom, and the two of them had an ugly fight over that choice. Callum, deciding he didn't want to stand behind Edan who didn't seem to care about walking in the path of the horrors they just witnessed at the Lighthouse, broke things off and cut contact.During his time in the Maelstrom’s provisional recruitment program, he was usually tasked with whatever busywork could be pushed onto him -- silencing slanderous reporters, investigating Garlean strongholds, acquiring equipment, and assisting with any preparations necessary in the days prior to the Battle of Carteneau. Driven to succeed and leave a good impression on those who put their trust into him, he worked himself to the bone to be recognized and officially sworn in.When Dalamud fell, Callum had just been enlisted as a Private Third Class. While the Admiral brought her best in the Foreign Levy to fight at Carteneau, Callum stayed behind in Limsa Lominsa to aid the city and its surrounding settlements in the wake of the Seventh Umbral Calamity. Over the next few years, he clawed his way through the ranks, reaching the rank of Storm Sergeant First Class by Year Five of the Seventh Umbral Era.

LORE : a realm reborn .

With five years of dedication under his belt, Callum was soon trusted with affairs outside of Vylbrand. At the request of his superiors, he would often find himself traveling short-term to the Coerthan Highlands in response to Ishgard’s calls for foreign aid. He looked forward to these calls, exhilarated by the idea of venturing into unfamiliar lands. As part of these ventures, he had to lead missions in the Dzemael Darkhold and Aurum Vale, which is just as misery-inducing as one would expect. It was worth it, however, as coming out successfully meant higher respects from those above him.Meanwhile, discussions regarding Ishgard re-joining the Eorzean Alliance were becoming more heated as the Commander of the Crystal Braves pressed for Ishgard's cooperation for a united Eorzea. As the Dragonstar began to burn brighter, and the Astrologians warned of the return of Midgardsormr, Aymeric of the Temple Knights asked once more for foreign aid from the Grand Companies to combat the Dravanian threat. In return for the aid, Ishgard would be one step closer to consider re-opening their gates and rejoining Her sister nations....

The Admiral, wanting to prioritize her own nation before Ishgard, agreed to sending only a handful of men to assist. With Callum's growing reputation within the Maelstrom, paired with his experience in Coerthas, he was looking more and more like a probable choice for the foreign aid that Aymeric was requesting. In addition, both Callum and R'ashaht Rhiki received a peculiar letter penned by Callum's father. Liam, himself, had been sent a letter from House Fortemps to return to Ishgard and help with the Dravanian threat. Formerly employed under House Fortemps prior to moving to Limsa Lominsa, he and Liu Xiuhua were only allowed to leave Ishgard due to Edmont using his influence to pull some strings. Wanting to finally return the favor, he expressed his wishes for Callum to assist with House Fortemps’ call for aid in his stead.Everything seemed to fall into place, and the Maelstrom had found the perfect person to send to Coerthas. Almost too quick to set Callum up with a promotion, he was assigned some recruits -- and the 8th Foreign Levy was formed. The Maelstrom had found it's "handful of men", and to Coerthas they went.

LORE : heavensward / present.

Freshly promoted to Second Lieutenant, and with the newly-formed 8th Foreign Levy in tow, his first assignment was to be stationed at Camp Dragonhead. As a squadron, they are tasked with padding their frontlines, defending the garrison and its surrounding areas from the threat of heretics and Dravanians, and safely escorting merchants and travelers to and from Ishgard.Callum quickly realized that it would be impossible for him to fight dragons barehanded. He eventually found himself at the doorstep of the Skysteel Manufactory, as House Fortemps was rather close to the Manufactory’s overseer, House Haillenarte. mps was rather close to the Manufactory’s overseer, House Haillenarte. Since his parents were originally working-class Ishgardians, he found that their ideals were more closely aligned than he expected.Much to Stephanivien's dismay, Callum's weak aether prevented him from trying any of the experimental tech the guild had to offer. He did, however, learn how to shoot a gun from Rostnsthal. He got along particularly well with his mentor, given their shared connection to Limsa Lominsa. He remembered hearing whispers of Sthalmann Sthalmannsyn and his underhanded attempts to claim the Admiral’s seat as his own. While he was initially wary of him, he learned to see past it after taking Rostnshal’s remorse and their similarities into account.

Working and cooperating with Ishgardians proper proved to be a difficult task for Callum. Even with his Ishgardian birth and his good standing with the noble houses due to his connections to House Fortemps, there was a very severe culture clash that he struggled with. He often found the attitudes of Ishgardian nobles too stuffy for his liking, and the Ishgardians had preconceived assumptions of Lominsans in return. Being a “half-breed” didn’t exactly help things, either. It became increasingly obvious as to why his parents left Ishgard in the first place.During his assignment, while escorting some merchants to Ishgard, Callum’s group was attacked by a wyvern. In this altercation, he managed to barely escape with his life after attempting to push one of his men -- Morel -- out of the way. He received a rather nasty gash across his right side, spanning from his upper thigh to just beneath his ribcage and lost a concerning amount of blood. Morel did not survive. After being retrieved and returned to camp once his squadron's cries for help were heard, he was promptly placed on three month's bedrest in Camp Dragonhead’s infirmary to recover -- much to his disdain. As a compromise, since Callum was insistent on not sitting idly, he took charge of creating and double checking the fort’s patrol routes and combat formations. This is where he realized that he took a liking to creating these plans, and he proved himself to be a skilled tactician.

Fully recovered and back to work, life returned to the normal everyday of patrols, reports, and escort missions... Not wanting to disappoint his supervisors and those that he works with, Callum does his best to juggle his responsibilities with the ever-heavy pressure of expectations weighing on his shoulders...

relations.

Yehn Amariyo

Second in Command.

Out of everyone in Callum's squadron, Chief Sergeant Yehn Amariyo is the one that he's closest with. With her bright, outgoing, and snappy personality, she can sometimes help bring Callum out of his shell and loosen up a little. Nine times out of ten, they are seen working together throughout the day.Their personalities clash, and sometimes they can bicker, but Yehn respects Callum deeply. She is trusted with all of Callum's secrets, as well as a plan for what happens next in the occurrence of Callum dying.

Rostnsthal

Mentor.

He had heard of Sthalmann Sthalmannsyn when he was merely a recruit — his desires to take the Admiral's seat, and the lengths he went to try and secure it. What he didn't expect, however, was to see the man in Ishgard, under the employ of the Skysteel Manufactory. While he was initially wary of the ex-Commodore, the two of them found a friendship in their similarities. Two men with a tendency to run away, they keep each other in check and accountable.

Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn

The Boss.

The Admiral is someone that Callum both deeply admires and deeply fears. Her ideologies surrounding defying the odds, as well as her catchphrase 'Impossible is a term coined by the weak', gave Callum the push towards enlisting into the Maelstrom when the Grand Companies were beginning to reform. Most of Callum's work is relayed to Merlwyb through R'ashaht Rhiki, but they've worked closely on one or two occasions. Sending men out to Coerthas was her choice, albeit a reluctant one.

Morel

Fallen Comrade

He was the youngest and newest recruit of the 8th Foreign Levy. Right when the newly-formed squadron was beginning to grow closer, Morel lost his life pushing Callum out of the way during a wyvern attack.Callum struggles with the loss still. He knows it's the price of war, but that first loss will always stick with him.
